The chapter was chartered in 1972,
and promotes the goals and ideals of The Ohio
Genealogical Society, and serves the interests of
genealogy in Mahoning County. The chapter provides
informational and educational programs and fosters the
exchange of ideas and research help between members.
We maintain an ongoing publications program and have
published more than twenty-five books since 1972. Please
see our current publications list.
Our newsletter, Mahoning Meanderings, is published nine
months of the year. It contains previously unpublished
sources of material, genealogical news items and queries
with Mahoning County and surrounding area connections.
Pioneer Families of Mahoning County [organized in 1992]
honors those ancestors who were in the townships that
became Mahoning County. Your ancestors must have been
here before 31 December 1850 for you to be eligible for
this lineage society and you must be a member of our
Chapter.
The Chapter meets on the third Monday of each month,
except July, August and December. The meetings are held
at St. Charles Church Ministry Building adjacent to the
church, 7325 Westview Dr. entrance off of Boardman -
Canfield Rd. (Rt 224). Meetings start at 7:00 pm. The
Computer Interest Group meets at 6:00 pm in the same
location, the same months as there are meetings, except
in June or otherwise posted.
We try to have volunteers at the courthouse
each Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm,
except when the courthouse is closed. You will find them
in the Marriage Department in the basement. We also
have volunteers at the Main Library every Thursday from
1:00 pm until 4:00 pm, except when the library is closed.
LIMITED research is performed by volunteers. When
requesting information, please provide basic information
about your ancestors. We encourage you to include an
ancestor chart and family group sheet with your query.
Also send a business size, Self Addressed Stamped
Envelope [SASE]; this is a must. Send all correspondence
